Join Mayor Muriel Bowser, Councilmember Brandon Todd, and Ward 4 community members in the celebration of the history and future of the Walter Reed Army Medical Site. The block party is the first public celebration to be held at the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center, now known as The Parks at Walter Reed. Four exciting artist activations will debut at the block party along with a full program of music, food, games, and children’s activities to celebrate the spirit of the neighborhood and its future possibilities.
Building upon the use of ribbons as a symbol of honor and support throughout the branches of the Military, I collaborated with good friend and curator, Deirdre Darden to collect and document the reflections and memories of local staffers, veterans, and neighbors who hold special connections with Walter Reed. Their words were then screenprinted onto handmade ribbons that will flank the main gate. These ribbons will serve as an emblem of WRAMC's past and the community's hope for its future. Attendees of the block party are encouraged to explore the installation, as well as contribute their own reflections, as facilitated by us.
