Manufactured Narratives highlights fiber artists who weave stories through their artwork. Fiber art is an intrinsically hands-on artistic discipline, as artists manipulate material through intense manual labor. It straddles the line between form and function as many fiber artworks can contain traditional functionality. However, within fiber arts, a distinction is drawn between creating for function or beauty. The difference is the focus on aesthetic value over utility. The narratives created through this work focus on a single question or examine personal experiences. While this juried open-call challenged artists to create textile works with a clear focus on aesthetic value, you'll find boundaries blur and embrace function.
